Spring Cleaning - for your Community
by Evelyn Alemanni, America in Bloom First Vice President
Spring cleaning - it's not just for your home! Sure, now that warmer weather is coming, you might be washing windows, putting up screens, and all the other tasks that go with springtime.
But remember your community! Now is a great time to organize a community-wide cleanup. Recruit scouts, school groups, churches, service clubs, and businesses to partner in an effort to make neighborhoods cleaner and more attractive.
With just a small changes to the typical cleanup routine, you can do even more for your community.

- Consider having a community wide garage sale. What a great way to get rid of stuff in one day!
- Remember that lots of the items picked up along the road can be recycled and turned into cash.
- An e-waste collection day to collect old computers, tvs, and more can benefit lots of people. Look into the possibility of giving old computers to organizations that refurbish them and give them to schools or deserving families. Likewise, there are organizations that collect old cell phones and redistribute them.
- If your perennials are in need of dividing, now is a great time to find homes for the divisions. Perhaps neighbors would be willing to adopt a few, or you can even organize a plant swap.
